There is a myth, widely spread during the wars of the former Yugoslavia and still around now, that Bosnia was a modern creation with no history, and that fighting for it was wrong (in as much as the western and international powers did fight for it). Bosnia was a medieval kingdom under a monarchy founded in the 13th century.   Yugoslavia proved to be a Cold War wild card, however. Yugoslavia, former federated country that existed in the west-central part of the Balkan Peninsula from until Yugoslavia included what are now six independent states: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia, and Slovenia.

Learn more about Yugoslavia. Additional Physical Format: Online version: Furlan, Boris. Fighting Jugoslavia. New York, N.Y. [] (OCoLC) Document Type: Book: All Authors / Contributors. Book Description: Yugoslavia as History is the first book to examine the bloody demise of the former Yugoslavia in the full light of its history.

This new edition of John Lampe's accessible and authoritative history devotes a full new chapter to the tragic ethnic wars that have followed the dissolution of Yugoslavia, first in Croatia and Bosnia. 61 books based on 70 votes: Girl at War by Sara Nović, The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway, Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Wartime Sarajevo by Z.

Former Yugoslavia The Balkans Breakup If you're confused about how the former Yugoslavia dissolved after the fall of communism, you're not. Misha Glenny's "The Fall of Yugoslavia" is certainly a good book on the Fall of Yugoslavia, but I could not say it is the best book I have read.

I still prefer Silber and Little's "Yugoslavia: Death of a Nation." The latter book is I think more concise, thorough and better organized.

Fighting broke out briefly in and security remains Reviews: Kissani Jugoslavia is a weird book that gets you thinking. It's well written and interesting - so very different to what Finnish books usually are. It was extremely great to read about the mother especially.

The German land forces were under the overall direction of the commander of the German Army Generalfeldmarschall (Field Marshal) Walther von Brauchitsch. Bravo for making readable and clear the story of the fighting in Yugoslavia during WWII.

Most important, the story of the US airmen rescued by Mihailovich, men who were grateful and wanted to help him after the war ended only to be rebuffed reads like a mystery novel.

Kurapovna's research is meticulous -- a universal story for all the Reviews: Prince Regent Paul declared that the kingdom of Yugoslavia would join the Tripartite Pact on 25 March Two days later, King Peter, at was proclaimed of age after a pro-British coup d' initially bloodless coup was led by General Dušan Simović on 27 March in the name of Peter.

As General Simović led his men toward the Royal Compound, which was surrounded by guards. All summer long, the fragile unity that has bound Yugoslavia's six republics in a loose federation of disparate and often distrustful nationalities has been unraveling in ethnic fighting -- first.

Yugoslavia was a country in Europe, mostly in Balkan Peninsula, its meaning South Slavs deriving from Slavs who came from area what is now Poland in 7th century. It existed in three forms during – From until it was called the Kingdom of the Serbs, Croats, and until World War II it was the Kingdom of Yugoslavia.
